The artistic residency show
-
cases are Westway LAB’s great
inaugural event, because they
reveal to the general public
the result of a unique creation
process developed during
one week in Guimarães, in the
Candoso Creation Centre. These
encounters have only one rule
- the musicians must produce
content for a performance
that lasts 30 minutes or more.
Everything else results from free
creative decisions taken by the
artists involved. The presenta
-
tions take place on Wednesday
and Thursday evenings at the
CCVF’s Café Concerto, with
free access and usually play to
a packed audience. Another
characteristic of the residency
showcases is the community
atmosphere formed by the close
proximity between the musicians
and the general public, as if they
were all part of one big family.
With concrete results that have
inspired further editions, these
showcases are always very
surprising in terms of artistic
experimentation.
Tiago Sampaio aka St. James Park is a producer, musician and composer, based in Porto, Portugal. After he founded the band Grandfather’s House and toured the Europe with different albums, Tiago decided to start a new venture by exploring electronic music. Influenced by experimental electronics, classic music and hip-hop, he debut the album Highlight in 2020, wich quickly caught the public and critic’s attention. This work speaks about a human being who lives between the light and darkness, that depends on the addictions of your routine, and memory to be able to live. For this particularly one he had the opportunity to collaborate with artists like Lince, Noiserv and your sister IVY.
After “Highlight”, he had the opportunity to integrate the album “Oasis Nocturno (Remixed)” by TOKiMONSTA and also released remixes of acts like First Breath After Coma and Sensible Soccers. In June 2021, Park released the NFT “Cobras” with Conan Osiris, Holly and Pedro Mkk.
Recently he has also been working on soundtracks for theatre, short films and fashion shows and on a project for a film’s live soundtrack with Cláudia Guerreiro (Linda Martini).
Eliën
is an alternative pop singer/songwriter and artist based in
the Netherlands. In 2019 she first came into view while writing her album
during a road-trip through Europe. Her dreamy synths, polyphonic drifts and
dark downtempo grooves take you on a journey through the depths of her mind. In
her art Eliën uses film, music, movement and live-performance to create multiple
dimensions. Together with her producer in crime Daniël Tomàs she is sourcing
inspiration from visionary artists such as Rainsford and Sevdaliza and
therefore is following her own multidisciplinary path; poetic, raw and vivid.
In 2021 her brand new EP and short movie titled 'Naar het Blauw' (Into the
blue) was launched with the help of the Amsterdam-based label service
'Stroomlijn' and her own artist collective 'Zuhause'. In 2022 Eliën is playing at different
venues and festivals across the Netherlands such as Eurosonic Noorderslag
(local talents), Grasnapolsky and the support show of
Dutch/Icelandic singer and songwriter Áslaug (V2 records). Being a
part of the international Westway LAB
Artist Residencies 2022 and therefore sharing and making music with other
talented creatives is a dream come true for Eliën.
