Portugal has a history of revolutionary folk music. The recently
re-released works of legendary singer and poet José Afonso are a prime
examples of this tradition. Finnish journalist Matti Komulainen leads on this
panel conversation focusing on counterculture and underground movements as
change-making powers in western societies and their social context, as well as
the potential for cultural (r)evolution through music in the 21st century. Speakers
include two of José Afonso’s children, Lena Afonso and Pedro Afonso, and 21st-century artist Misia Furtak from Poland, whose new album “Wybory” addresses
some Polish current political challenges. “Wybory” means “Elections” and this
masterpiece includes a political statement track that is 30 seconds of silence.
A panel not to be missed in the current European turmoil…
