The artistic residency show
-
cases are Westway LAB’s great
inaugural event, because they
reveal to the general public
the result of a unique creation
process developed during
one week in Guimarães, in the
Candoso Creation Centre. These
encounters have only one rule
- the musicians must produce
content for a performance
that lasts 30 minutes or more.
Everything else results from free
creative decisions taken by the
artists involved. The presenta
-
tions take place on Wednesday
and Thursday evenings at the
CCVF’s Café Concerto, with
free access and usually play to
a packed audience. Another
characteristic of the residency
showcases is the community
atmosphere formed by the close
proximity between the musicians
and the general public, as if they
were all part of one big family.
With concrete results that have
inspired further editions, these
showcases are always very
surprising in terms of artistic
experimentation.
French-Irish singer-songwriter Yann Cleary clashes by mixing machines, traditional instruments and musical toys. This protégé of Laurent Garnier has fun with sweet pop and sensitive folk, infusing him with electronic attire and a playful dimension on stage. After his twin albums Tokyo in 2016 and Chiba in 2021, Yann Cleary is releasing the album “Follow you” with the participation of chromatic harpist Laura Perrudin, rising star of pop and jazz. “Follow you” chronicles the breakdown of a romantic relationship, where personal history echoes the great upheavals, between collapsology, toys made in China and migrants’ destinies, all carried by an instrumentarium of dozens of instruments.
