The artistic residency show
-
cases are Westway LAB’s great
inaugural event, because they
reveal to the general public
the result of a unique creation
process developed during
one week in Guimarães, in the
Candoso Creation Centre. These
encounters have only one rule
- the musicians must produce
content for a performance
that lasts 30 minutes or more.
Everything else results from free
creative decisions taken by the
artists involved. The presenta
-
tions take place on Wednesday
and Thursday evenings at the
CCVF’s Café Concerto, with
free access and usually play to
a packed audience. Another
characteristic of the residency
showcases is the community
atmosphere formed by the close
proximity between the musicians
and the general public, as if they
were all part of one big family.
With concrete results that have
inspired further editions, these
showcases are always very
surprising in terms of artistic
experimentation.
Christina Quest is a songwriter and one of the first women to play the solo guitar in Portugal, with a musical career that began in 1988 and internationalized since 1999. She is a cultural entrepreneur and the leader of the MusicàLady Movement, responsible for developing the career of dozens of female instrumentalists, and the founder of the project “A Bússola da Emotions”, where performing arts, personal development and sustainability combine.
Catharina Boutari aka Puder is a musician, producer and opera director
from Hamburg, Germany. She runs her own feminist record label, Pussy Empire
Recordings. Born in Austria, Boutari combines diverse identities with a
self-possessed verve, a skill she learned from her Egyptian father and German
mother.
As Puder she produces current international pop in a new way by defying
the norms of traditional music recording processes and eschewing conventions.
Since 2016, Catharina has been collaborating for her albums with musicians from
Germany and abroad to write songs in 10-day sessions, record them live in the
studio, with guests in the recording room, and accompany them with a film
documentary.
Following her 2020 album "Session Tapes 4 + 5 - Tomorrowland
mit Freunden" (Netherlands/Germany), Puder launched four digital/analog
Europe songwritings with livestreams in 2021 and released the singles: Tunnels
(UK with Jules Maxwell/Dead Can Dance), Spices (Bosnia/Germany), Airplane
Dreams (Poland) and Let Us Talk (Iran). Furthermore she is a guest at the
European project "European Ghosts“ performing too at Westway Lab.
