In the 4th edition of the Westway Lab, and with the support of the GDA Foundation, the AMAEI – Portuguese Independent Music Association and the WHY Portugal music cluster, the Westway Lab PROfessional Conferences have redoubled their efforts to incentivize the sharing of knowledge about the music market amongst prominent professionals in the field and the community of both Portuguese and international artists
In the context of internationalization, a new partnership with WHY Portugal Event adds to this year's conference a series of parallel sessions dealing with different aspects of the internationalization of music and film. For this edition, the Westway PRO challenges participants to reflect on two specific markets where music is an integral part of the day-to-day cultural fabric of society: France and Sweden.
In France, music receives support in a structured way, both internally within the country and in its international exposure. The same applies to Sweden, yet there must be some type of secret to the international success of this country’s artists. Thus, in addition to the traditional panels, workshops and presentations on events, festivals, professional networks, audio-visual synchronizations, and other pertinent themes for self-producing artists or the independent music sector, Westway PRO 2017 invites us to meet some of the best that France and Sweden have to offer, as well as a North-American keynote perspective from Tom Silverman, founder of the Tommy Boy label and NYC's New Music Seminar. Presentations from IAO – International Artist Organization, LiveDMA – network of European live music venues, Europa Creativa, and other panels and sessions such as the one given by GDA will make this edition of Westway PRO a professional development opportunity not to be missed.

Exchange of best practices and experiences have ever since the foundation been the pivot of Live DMA’s existence. Through time, Live DMA has grown rapidly in terms of size and impact, and today, the network is composed of 17 members situated in 13 countries. The members are regional and national live music associations, which in total represent more than 2500 music venues and festivals located all over Europe. Audrey Guerre comes to Portugal to discuss the importance of a national Venues Association – which Portugal does not yet have – in order to represent our country's venues on the European stage. www.live-dma.eu
